In September 2013, I decided I wanted a career change and had my heart set on becoming a physiotherapist. Although I already have a degree, my prior qualifications did not meet the criteria demanded by universities. Having done an exhaustive internet search, I narrowed my options down to a distance learning course because of the flexibility and cost effectiveness. However, I then had a bit of a dilemma as I wasn't sure which provider to choose. At this point luck, intervened and somebody who had helped me organise a work experience placement recommended AOLL. I looked a their website and was impressed with the flexibility of the course and credits available. After talking to the course administrator I felt assured that they could offer me what I needed. I then spoke with my dedicated course tutor, who explained to me how the course worked and helped me to choose the right combination of credits to meet university entry requirements. I then 'cracked-on' with my studies and am pleased to say that in June 2014 I passed my Access to HE Diploma Health Professions and have secured a place at university to study for a BSc in Physiotherapy. Critical to my success was the structure of the course, where students do a series of exercises (a bit like homework) before each essay. This helped me build up knowledge on a topic before attempting an essay. The fact that my tutor was always available at the end of a phone, email or Skype was also vital! In summary, I would say that AOLL is a cost effective way (especially when compared to going to college) of getting the necessary qualifications to return to university. I would definitely recommend them to anyone in a similar position to me, who is looking to go to university and gain a vocational qualification.
