 June Moderation

A big well done to all our students who completed their Diploma this summer! The external moderator was very impressed with the standard of your work and completed portfolios. All grades were agreed and AOLL once again achieved the highest standard set by the Awarding Organisation in terms of quality processes and delivery of the Access to HE Diploma.

Our UCAS stats show that 94.6% of AOLL students who moderated in June have been offered a place at University. We would like to offer our best wishes to all students who are embarking on their next journey at the many different universities in September to become future:

Midwifes – Nurses – Physiotherapists – Radiographers – Psychologists -Criminologists – Lawyers -Occupational Therapists – Operating Department Practitioners – Paramedics - Social workers

Exciting times ahead

Enhanced Learning Credits

It has been a busy month for the AOLL team attending education fairs across the country at various bases. These were great opportunities to network with MoD personnel and also in raising awareness of where Access to HE can take them next.

ELCAS promotes lifelong learning and all serving personnel are automatically enrolled on the scheme with a view to assisting their eventual resettlement. We found the most interest was in becoming a Paramedic with Nursing coming a close 2nd.

The scheme contributes 80% toward the cost of studying the Diploma and those we spoke to saw the main advantages of studying with AOLL is the flexibility of being able to freeze studies when and if duty calls along with being able to study from any location.

We would like to welcome our newly enrolled service personnel and wish them well in their studies!

Happy 70th Birthday, NHS!

This month was the 70th anniversary of the NHS and many people took part in celebrating this great event up and down the country. AOLL were particularly proud to hear of Lauren Forde who after achieving the Access to HE Diploma with us (completed her Nursing degree this year) was chosen to represent her university for the Choral celebration at York Minster. A great honour for Lauren and very well deserved! The event was hosted by Linda Nolan (formerly part of the Nolan sisters). She is a huge advocate of the NHS and went on to explain that her current treatment and fight against cancer is made possible by the NHS. Other testimonials included a young man; Amen Dhesi who cared for his father from the age of 13. His father has bipolar disorder. Not only is Amen now 22 completing MSc in Psychology of Sport and Excercise he has also founded 'Imagine Bradford' in a bid to challenge social attitudes and perceptions of mental health. Inspired by care, Eve Senior aged 15 explained why she wants to become a nurse. She was caught up in the tragic Manchester bomb as she was leaving the Ariana Grandes concert and received 18 shrapnel wounds, burns and a severed nerve in her leg. Eve wants to turn the tragic event into something positive we certainly all wish her well in her ambition to become a nurse.

Other Events

This month we will sadly be saying goodbye to Fiona Fletcher who has been an amazing tutor at AOLL. She has supported many students through the Access to HE Diploma across the curriculum and is always a pleasure to work with. We would like to wish Fiona the very best in her new post.

We also wish Amy Green well as she begins her maternity leave. Good luck with everything Amy - try and put your feet up!!
