What is Access to Higher Education?
The Level 3 Diploma is designed to prepare adults for university by providing the UCAS points needed for degree-level study. How do I get my certificate?
Academy Online Learning is a Skills and Education Group Access Recognised Centre and is approved to run the Access to Higher Education Diploma. You will usually aim to complete by June moderation for a September university start, or November moderation for a January or following June start.
How does online learning work?
All courses are online and include interactive activities and learning materials. You are assigned a tutor as soon as you start and supported through instant messaging, phone, and video tutorials. There are no exams; each unit shown on the course page is completed as a written assignment.
The Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma is a widely recognised qualification for adults who do not hold traditional Level 3 qualifications. Over 140 UK universities accept Access to HE students each year. Our diploma is built from units relevant to your chosen pathway, and because the course is fully online, assessments are typically essays, reports, and extended written responses.
Learning Phase
During the learning phase, you work through unit guides and interactive activities designed to build skills and understanding. Activities provide challenge and immediate feedback, and your tutor can support you one-to-one when needed.
To progress, you complete the learning activities to the required standard so your assignment can be released.
Flexible Deadline Setting

- 3-credit units: typically 2 weeks
- 6-credit units: typically 4 weeks
- 9-credit units: typically 6 weeks
Assessment Phase
Once you agree your deadline, the assignment brief becomes available to download. You complete your work and submit online for marking. Your tutor then provides a grade and detailed feedback on strengths and improvements for future assignments.
Early ungraded units are used to build confidence and writing quality before graded units begin.
