Applying for Paramedic Science Through UCAS

Prepare a Paramedic Science UCAS application with guidance on Access to HE qualifications, references, selection events and university requirements.

Paramedic Science applicants apply for specific university courses, not for the profession in general. Start with each university's current course page: it is the source for its Access qualification, grade profile, GCSE or equivalent requirements, experience expectations and selection process.

Check the qualification and requirements first

Academy Online Learning's relevant formal award is the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Health Science Professions). A university may also specify particular Biology, science or health credits, as well as Level 2 English, Maths or Science qualifications. Check the exact course and entry year before enrolling or submitting an application.

Most Access to HE students apply while completing the Diploma for entry in the following academic year. Your Access qualification and units are entered as pending until they are completed and moderated. A university may ask Academy Online Learning for information about the units and grades achieved so far, alongside the academic reference.

The UCAS application format

For applications for 2026 entry onwards, UCAS uses three structured personal-statement questions rather than one continuous statement. The questions ask about your reasons for choosing the course, how your qualifications and studies have prepared you, and what you have done outside education to prepare.

Use the current UCAS personal statement guidance and check the dates for your entry year in the UCAS dates and deadlines guidance. Your chosen universities or referee may set earlier deadlines.

Build evidence you can discuss honestly

Your application and any interview should show an informed, realistic understanding of the paramedic role. Use real examples from study, work, volunteering, caring or other responsibilities to explain communication, teamwork, professionalism, resilience and reflection. Do not exaggerate experience or identify patients, service users or colleagues.

Interviews and selection events

Universities may use interviews, group activities, written tasks or other selection events. Prepare by rereading the exact course information, reviewing its professional and placement expectations, and reflecting on your own evidence. An offer may also be subject to academic conditions, DBS and occupational-health checks or other published requirements.

  • Have I recorded its grade, GCSE or equivalent and selection requirements?
  • Have I entered my unfinished Access qualification and units as pending?
