Chiropractic Student applying to University
Chiropractic Care

As part of our podcast series I talk to a number of our online students about their experience studying Access to Higher Education whilst working and like many of our students, running a family along side their studies.

In this episode I meet Access to HE student, Oliver who is studying the Health Science, Chiropractic Care diploma at level 3. I will be asking Oliver about his studies with academy online learning, his background in kinesiology and the Feldenkrais Method as well as his work experience in the fitness industry and why he has taken this career route.

Hello Oliver, thank you for recording this podcast episode. You have recently started the Access to HE in Chiropractic Care diploma. What brought you to academy online learning?

The story I have is quite interesting. I had planned to attend the Access to Higher Education program offered by the university I wanted to enrol in. However, my UK visa was delayed, and I was worried about missing the program. That's when I stumbled upon AOLL and realised that I could complete my entry program through them. I contacted the universitys admission department, and they confirmed that they accept the diploma from AOLL. I was so relieved and made my decision to enrol in the Access to HE in Chiropractic Care Diploma program.

Your background is in kinesiology and the Feldenkrais Method. Can you tell us more about this method of back care and your experience of practicing it.

I am also a student of the Feldenkrais Method, which is a holistic approach to movement and self-awareness. The aim of this method is to improve our body function by increasing self-awareness through movement. This method has been a lifesaver for me as it helped me to cure my chronic neck pain altogether. My experience of practising it has always been fascinating, as it keeps helping me to develop new awareness towards my body. It has strengthened my ability to be focused, and most importantly, after years of practice, I found that my ability to differentiate nuances has improved significantly. This ability has helped me a lot in learning as noticing differences is one of the essences of learning.

You said that your work experience in the fitness industry has enhanced your understanding of Osteopathy for not only your diploma but your undergraduate study? Can you say how it has enhanced your understanding alongside your access course?

Those years I spent in the fitness industry facilitated my intention to study osteopathy. I realised that there is a vast untapped market in China waiting for experts in this field to make a meaningful contribution. My work experience has also provided me with a strong foundation of knowledge that gives me the confidence to pursue my academic goals. Additionally, working with clients who want to transform their physiques has sharpened my intuition, which will be a valuable asset in my future studies.

What will this diploma offer you for the future do you think?

Firstly, the ticket enables me to pursue my academic studies, and secondly, it acts as a buffer for me to improve my English proficiency as an international student.

Once you have completed your online diploma in Chiropractic Care and studied your undergraduate degree, what do you intend to do for employment?

My first step in advancing my career is to work in a clinic to gain more experience by working with a broader range of cases. I have always been curious about the differences between the Feldenkrais Method and Osteopathy when it comes to treating clients with musculoskeletal issues. It's an intriguing idea to me whether combining these methods can lead to a more efficient approach.

Thank you for your time and wishing you all the best for your application to university.
