Common pitfalls to avoid

Are there any common weaknesses or omissions you've seen in Access to HE applications that we could help our students avoid?

Common pitfalls we are seeing in applications are students not knowing what the profession is and what the professional does, not having relevant transferable skills or demonstrating them, skills just being listed without examples being provided to demonstrate them, applications not being made to be unique, and also using AI so the personal statements are not personal, which they should be.

Should the statement align closely to the course content?

Do admissions tutors value Access to HE students who align their personal statement closely to the subject content of their chosen course?

It is very important for students to focus on the specific course they are applying for in both the personal statement and if they are invited to interview. The tutors are looking for students that have a passion for a specific profession and a commitment to study. Particularly as the Health Professional courses are demanding and require both academic and practice placement work.
