What do I have to achieve to get an Access Diploma?

To successfully achieve an Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma with Academy Online Learning, you must complete a total of 60 credits at Level 3. This is a national requirement set by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), ensuring that all Access Diplomas maintain a consistent and recognised standard.

The 60 credits are divided into two categories:

  • 45 credits must be achieved from graded academic subject units. These units are assessed and awarded at Pass, Merit, or Distinction levels, depending on the quality of your work.
  • 15 credits are achieved from ungraded units, which are typically focused on developing essential study skills, such as research methods, academic writing, and preparation for university study.

All 60 credits must be successfully completed in order to be awarded the Access to HE Diploma. Achieving higher grades, particularly Merits and Distinctions, can strengthen your university applications, especially for competitive degree programmes such as nursing, midwifery, or business management.
