When is Moderation?

External moderation is a crucial part of the Access to Higher Education (HE) Diploma certification process at Academy Online Learning. It ensures that the awarding of qualifications is fair, consistent, and meets national quality standards.

External moderation of student work for final certification takes place at two key points in the year:

  • June/July: This moderation window is for students aiming to start university in September. It allows time for the Final Awards Board to confirm student achievements and issue certificates before university admission deadlines.
  • November/December: This moderation period supports students intending to start university courses in January. It ensures certificates are confirmed and issued in good time for mid-year university admissions.

During these periods, the awarding organisation, Skills and Education Group Access, reviews samples of students' assessed work, verifies grading decisions, and confirms that academic standards have been met before certificates are officially awarded.

It is important for students to plan their study schedules carefully if they have a target university start date, ensuring that all assignments are completed and submitted in time for external moderation and final certification.

Academy Online Learning provides guidance and support to help students stay on track and achieve certification within the required timeframe.
