As of September 2020, all students entering pre-registration midwifery courses are entitled to receive annual funding support ranging from £5,000 to £8,000, which you do not need to pay back. You are also still entitled to access funding for tuition and maintenance loans.
Allied health university students in the UK may be eligible for grants and other financial support through the NHS Learning Support Fund (NHS LSF):
- Training grant: £5,000 per year for new and continuing students
- Parental support payment: £2,000 per year to help with childcare costs
- Specialist subject payment: £1,000 per year for students on degrees that struggle to recruit
- Travel and accommodation costs: Help towards additional costs for clinical placements
- Exceptional hardship fund: Up to £3,000 per year for students who experience unforeseen financial hardship
To qualify for the NHS LSF, you must:
- Be a UK resident
- Study at an English university
- Study a degree that leads to registration as a healthcare professional
