Our online Access to Higher Education Diploma in Health Science Professions for Nursing will give you the qualifications you need to start a BSc (Hons) degree in nursing at university. Once you have achieved your degree you can register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). There are four nursing specialist areas to choose from: adult, children, mental health, or learning disability. Your 3-year degree programme will combine academic study with supervised placements in NHS hospitals, private clinics, and community settings.

What are the university entry requirements for a nursing degree?

To apply for nursing, you should have, or be working towards, a relevant Access to HE Diploma in Health Science, often referred to as an Access to Nursing course. Alternatively, you can apply with 3 A Levels including at least one science subject. Entry requirements can be found on the UCAS website. Details of our Access to Nursing course are available here.

A Levels typically require at least 5 GCSEs. The Access route generally needs just GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade C or above. Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications are also accepted by some universities. You can study Functional Skills online with us.

Gaining work experience within a healthcare setting is beneficial and demonstrates commitment to university admission teams. Explore NHS Trust opportunities or the NHS jobs website for roles and voluntary positions.

Most universities start in September, but some offer January starts for Adult Nursing, Midwifery, and Child Nursing. View details of universities offering January intakes here.
